WTN: Wind Gap

2014 Wind Gap Sonoma Coast Syrah: mixed feelings about this wine; the nose is interesting with what I associate with a bit of viognier mixed in with some faint barnyard and light spice syrah but a floral perfume that is a bit off-putting, sweet-old-lady perfume. The palate is lacking that perfume but the finish is short and rather thin. I just opened and served so maybe some air would have helped as it did improve over the meal. With 12.8 % abv probably one of the lowest abv wines in my cellar but I'll give my remaining bottles some serious air before serving. judgement reserved

What's your favored style of Syrah?

spicey black fruit with 5-6 % viognier and some earthiness/forest floor............a touch of brett would be O.K. too

Well the earthy complexity comes with the Wind Gap wines. It just requires age.

The viognier thing is a little more difficult. Not everyone has access. California isn’t Côte Rotie.
