Blair offered this up for us to try ystrday:
1. Failla Syrah QueSyrahVnyd/SonomaCoast (13.5%; FaillaWines.com; Winery Direct Cuvee) 2001: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; very strong black olive tapenade/cracked black pepper/cold-climate Syrah/blackberry/very spicy smokey/oak/pencilly slight floral/marigolds/pungent quite complex nose; quite tart/tangyvery strong black olive tapenade/quite c-c Syrah/cracked pepper/blackberry/boysenberry/Syrahrather smokey/toasty/charred/Fr.oak slight earthy/floral rather complex flavor w/ modest tangy/chewey tannins; very long/lingering bit drying very strong c-c Syrah/black olive tapenade/cracked black pepper some charred/pencilly/oak complex finish w/ light chewey tannins; a beautiful classic c-c Syrah very complex but tannins are mostly resolved and starting to dry out a bit and heading into decline. $43.00

1. This was nearing the end of Ehren's run w/ AlRago's QueSyrahVnyd. It is now owned/farmed by NathanRoberts of Arnot-Roberts. It is made in a much leaner style now and I don't think it really displays the glories that QueSyrah can yield, but time may very well prove me wrong.
