2001 Lagier Meredith Syrah - USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder (11/24/2018)
Wow, this is incredible. It still shows some youthful berry fruit, but it has developed tar, rose, leather and earth components as well, so it’s very complex. The palate has clearly evolved, as the tannins have softened, but there remains a structural framework that balances the depth of fruit and savory elements. I find it hard to believe that this is seventeen years old. It certainly seems poised for making old bones, as the balance and fruit levels are set for a long journey. Fantastic Syrah!
