2014 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (8/31/2018)
Chinese takeout on a tired Friday night, and this wine wakes me up. Slim for modern Kabinett, it almost gets back to what Kabinett used to be in the 1990s. Bottle it in 1995 and it’s probably still a Spätlese. Apple skin, pear, quince, sweet herbs (whatever those may be) and a clear mineral finish create an energizing, primary wine with excellent balance of its components. With an alcohol around 8.5% there was no question of finishing the bottle. Drink now, and for a long time to come.

Sounds nice. And speaking of restrained Selbach wines, what do you think of the Selbach Zeltinger dry wines? The other week I almost bought an 08 trocken on a very positive recommendation from a retailer, but then at the last minute had too many other items.

I think their dry wines are good, but their Feinherb wines are fantastic, so I use funds for those rather than Trocken.

Have my eye on some Selbach wines downtown.

Understandable.

There is so much wine out there!

Thanks for the tasting notes, David. But I'd expected a topic title such as "heart in a blender".

I’ve used pretty much all the Oster puns in prior threads.

Time to move on with Bach puns.
