Tangy Wines in Geyserville

by Brian K Miller » Mon Aug 27, 2018 10:54 am

Tried out a new (to me) winery in "Downtown" Geyserville yesterday. Had stopped for a coffee drink and pastry after some grueling cycling, and Mercury Winery was next door.

These wines are for acid lovers-to me in a good way, as I love tangy, high acid wines. The highlight was probably the Alexander Valley Merlot, which had warm plum fruit but a very savory, yes tangy character. The Zinfandel was a mouthful of zingy berry fruit with a lovely tangy cranberry finish. They also have a kitchen sink blend in a liter jug. Classic food wine, to be honest. It made my mouth water!

Anyway, take my tasting notes with a grain of salt. These were tasted after hours of climbing and drinking sports beverages, so your mileage may vary.

Never heard of them, but it sounds good. The little town of Geyserville is quite a winey-foodie destination now. I regret that the last time we went thru, we were short on time and I wasn't feeling well, but I saw enough to know I want to return.

Definitely a nice town. The coffee bar is above average (and has great baked goods-a godsend after a major cycling day), and the pizzeria gets great reviews.

I like the scruffiness of the town, as well.

And Catelli's house-made raviolis are superb.

Yup, Brian...certainly gets great reviews from me. Pizzeria Diavola. Everything they do is terrific. I like their pizzas
better than PizzeriaRosso in SantaRosa. And they make their own salumi. And the wine list is pretty exceptional.
And I think those sculptures they have on the edge of town are pretty neat. Cetainly not a village as chi-chi as Healdsburg.
