Any experience with old Joe Cafaro Wines? Early start to Weekend Wines!

by Brian K Miller » Wed Jan 31, 2007 12:37 am

I was chatting with the owner of one of my favorite wine shops-Arlington in Kensington, CA, and we were kinda bemoaning overdone cabs (although I can appreciate them sometimes), and I mentioned one of my favorite wines-Joe Cafaro. The gentleman groused that he can't sell them very well, because of their lean style. He then disappeared and reappeared with a 1991! He gave it to me, saying that I should just try it and then tell him what I think it's worth (between $5 and $20, he suggested). I can't wait! Cafaro's 1999 Riserva is one of my favorites, and the 2002 is not bad at all.

Anyone had any experience with really old Cafaro?
