I learned so much from John. As fine a gentleman as ever existed.

John was really passionate about Riesling ... It's hard to think of him without thinking of a glass of Riesling and a glowing tasting report. Condolences to his family and close friends.

Must have been unexpected; he was scheduled to be at MoCool.

Oh, man. So sorry to hear this. He was such a good, knowledgable, and generous guy... I feel lucky to have gotten to meet him, though only once.
cheers, Patchen

I will miss him. A true gentleman with a passion for Riesling.

So sorry to hear this. Remember 17-18 years ago him giving me an online "tutorial" on AP #s, which I had no real clue about before.
Obviously someone who loved wine (espeically Riesling), talking about wine, teaching about wine, and learning about wine,

Sad news. I remember well meeting him at a big Mosel wine do at the Moselschild in Ürzig in 1999 or 2000. Stars of the show were two different bottles of J.J. Prüm's Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese 1959, the first from the restaurant's own cellar and the second with stickers of merchants all round the world. The former tasted about 20 years younger.
