My First Prem-Ox

by Jim Grow » Tue May 29, 2018 8:54 pm

It was bound to happen but I finally got a prem-ox white Burgundy, the 2012 Pierre Matrot Meursault-Charmes. My first 2 sips before dinner showed a tired white with less than bright acidity and some slight pear fruit and a bit of minerality. Everything went downhill from there with increasing Maderization and deeper color too. Unfortunately I have 5 more bottles of this wine and if the next bottle is the same I will contact the provider to see about compensation!

Hmm...6 years from vintage...hmm.

When did you buy these?

I have no idea how much white Burgundy you drink, but congrats in general on holding out this long without getting a premoxed wine!

6 years from vintage, and bought 6 weeks ago does not scream premox. More like provenance issues.

That would be especially problematic as two other orders came with this one, and one of these two, a Sean Thackery Pleiades XXV, I am sipping as I write, is now coming across as cooked. The order contained 14 bottles total and that will really suck if all of them are cooked.

Rahsaan, I have had about a dozen different white Burgundies since 1982 when I started to drink good wine , so not a large data set, but I sure know a good one when I encounter one.

Get where you're coming from, but remember this is Matrot- First and Most in PremOx is their motto. Sad as it used to be my go to Meursault.

I thought Jadot was first among premox.
