2014 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (5/4/2018)
Initially surprised at the lack of the classic Grunhaus "sponti" aroma in this bottle, but that allowed for immediate enjoyment. It's classic in aromatic and flavor profile, with lime, cassis leaf, white peach, honeysuckle, and wet stones all playing a role. It's quite seamless in balance - no element sticks out. It does not come across as sweet or acidic, but as a complete wine. Those looking for a jolt of acid will be disappointed, but not because the wine is flat or flabby, but because, even at this young age, it is in harmony. This should sail along for many years.

Sounds delicious. Thanks for the reminder, I need to get back to drinking more Grunhaus wines.

Me too.

From 2002-2010 I bought essentially zero Grunhaus, largely due to spotty availability. I have since been able to get a good bit in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Now I can drink my older stash with less concern for ever again seeing the wines.

Good for you for making it a priority again. I don't usually see it in my usual retailers, and then I'm more retailer-driven than wine-driven and don't usually go hunting down specific wines across the country.

And always adds to corkpulling confidence when you have a nice stash!

I pressured my retailer into bringing in the wines. I grab what I want, and he seems to be able to sell the rest.
