WTN: Idlewild Dolcetto

by Patchen Markell » Fri May 04, 2018 8:59 am

Idlewild 2015 Mendocino County Dolcetto, Fox Hill Vineyard. On the (very nicely done) wine list at Erling Wu-Bower's terrific new restaurant, Pacific Standard Time, which opened this week. Bright, aromatic, juicy, and also a little raspy on the finish; based on earlier notes here, I gather this can take a few years to come into its own, and I can see how this would smooth out even more with some additional bottle age, but it didn't seem shut down, and the grippy tannins actually helped it stand up well to the strong flavors coming out of the hearth. Our first Idlewild, but not our last!
cheers, Patchen

You must try the Idlewild Cortese and Arneis. World-class wines.
