Netscape Forum Poll: How many wine glasses did you break last year?

It's an innate hazard that comes with being a wine "geek" ... sooner or later you're going to smash one or more of your wine glasses. Maybe even an <i>expensive</i> glass. We're curious: How often did this small disaster occur in your household last year? Just one. Actually broke it trying to fit it into my dishwasher, just sort of cracked on me.

Friends of mine did however break 2 or 3 Hennessey shot glasses at a poker party I had last summer.

My secret: I do a quick rinse at the end of the evening and leave the thorough washing and drying to the next day.

1 or 2, but my buying more Schott-Zweisels hopefully will mean I can say zip next year.

I broke Zero. Clearly, I wasn't drinking hard enough.

I broke one or two. My sister managed to break a little glass container of garlic salt on the kitchen floor. It took a lot of "neutralizing" spray to air out the garlic odor and this with company coming that day.

I broke none, Amy broke half a dozen.

And I'm the one who washes them.

None. Stemless 90% of the time; great care all the rest -- albeit in the dishwasher.

I don't actually keep track, to be honest. Maybe we lost an INAO glass last year, or more likely a Riedel Zin glass, but I don't really keep a tight inventory on them.

I broke 1 and my cat broke 1. I also broke my favorite decanter (but at least it was empty, so I didn't ruin any wine in the process !)

For the first time ever, I think we broke none. The rate of attrition was huge for my first Riedel purchases but we seem to have acquired a better knack for washing and drying them (and a couple of years ago the stem of one broke while a friend was swirling his wine). I have bought some more robust glasses for everyday drinking, which also, no doubt, contributes to the reduced breakage.

1- shattered in my hand. Could have been ugly. It was the same mode of failure I had on one in 2001. That time I was not quite so lucky.
