2012 Le Piane Boca - Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Boca (3/1/2018)
I only had a small taste (OK, two tastes) at a walk around tasting, but I was captivated by this wine. The red fruit and florals of Nebbiolo were supplemented by a spiciness that filled in the gaps where Nebbiolo tannins might barge through. It still had the structure on the back end, but (I presume) the 15% Vespolina added a forward element that made the wine so pleasing to drink. This was a fun wine to discover, and I hope to follow over several years, as well as many more vintages.

I'm wondering why it took you so long to find this, but then, why would I want it to be 'discovered' so easily?
I find myself wanting nebbiolo expressions not from the Piedmont but further north and inland. Perhaps it is the road not taken that has made all the difference?

I was not looking. Italian wine has never been a focus for me. I like it. I drink it. I don’t seek it out. Spanish wine is another where I just have not had a consistent focus.

That seems to be changing, especially for Italy.

I've had a few Le Piane wines--all delicious, and all very good value.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
