Picked up this Leelanau Peninsula wine on a recent trip to Michigan. I know I've tried the Mawby sparklers before, but it's been years. Popped it tonight in anticipation of the new year.
Energetic release of the cork under pressure. Powerful effervescence that continues to froth strongly as the wine is poured into the glass. Clear, medium-straw colour, with a central "pillar" of carbonation rising with amusing speed from the bottom of the glass.
Aromas of lemon-cream cookies and refreshing citrus-skin/green-apple in the background. Bracing and enlivening acidity, with a wave of carbonation giving it even more vigour. Light, fresh, lively, and focused; great stuff. Balanced warmth from the 11% alc./vol.
This would be great with hors d'oeuvres, but heck, I'm just sipping it on its own and finding it good just like that.
Happy new year!
