Bob, you will be pleased to know that we a thinking about popping an '00 PJA Crozes Hermitage Les Jales that we found in a NH Liq Store two weeks ago for $13.99 U.S. Just hope it isn't as bad as some other vintages or corked or cooked!

What a nice Piedmont line up. What are you serving to accompany the vino?

IIRC the Boschi di Berri is from really old pre - phylloxera vines. Please post a note if possible. Thanks.

We're going for mixed cold starters (prosciutto with Kiwi & chinese gooseberry; Salami (x2); eggplant with tuna, mixed veggies - the latter two from jars because I'm lazy!)

A mid course Pigeon breast in barbaresco + herbs etc (stove top cooked)

Topside of beef in Barbaresco (currently cooking on a very low heat in the oven), plus leek and potato mash (not very Italian I guess, but easier considering we only have 1 oven), plus mixed mushrooms (wild + shop bought) with tarragon and a dash of cream.

Pudding is a chocolate cheesecake (the brains of the operation made this, so I don't have the precise details)

With coffees / Barolo Chinato some light coconut biscuits

It's a rare chance to go to town on the cooking and wines, with a group of people who appreciate good wine (they've all had years of experience ITB).

Will definitely post notes, though they may just be following day (hangover affected) recollections. There may even be a mystery addition on the wine front. WRT the Boschi di Berri, yes I've been eager to taste this myself. I believe a proportion of the vines are of that era, with the remainder more recent. Not sure of the actual proportion old vs. newer.

I'll aim to post notes (albeit probably hangover-riddled notes) on sunday. Getting hold of older non-Barbaresco/Barolo Nebbiolo over here is remarkably difficult. This came from a merchant in Turin. As such I'm also intrigued, as I don't get much chance to taste them - the oldest to date from a nearby region is a 1989 Boca from Vallana (which was light but excellent).

I was supposed to buy a couple Crozes-Hermitages, but decided not to because I've had enough with '03s (the only vintages available). Instead a Minervois La Livinière '04 from Cesseras; Lageder's Pinot Bianco and quite probably something else as of yet undecided. I know from experience that with today's guests, it often tends to lead more to quantity than quality. :oops:
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

The Giordano was called into action and a bonus wine (1954 Vallana Spanna) was added. A clear (and perhaps surprising) winner emerged. More to follow tomorrow... sleep beckons for now.
