After all the discussion about Barbera and the corresponding tasting notes on California Barbera, I just had to go out and buy a bottle. I have very little experience with wines such as this but thankfully know how to attempt to write a tasting note!!
WTN: `03 Barbera d`Asti La Tribuleira, Mauro Gallo.
Not a very well known winery and hard to find information. Opened 2 hours, not decanted. 13.5% alc. Vineyard situated in Costigliole d`Asti.
Colour. Very light red-ruby, no big depth. Pale watery violet rim.
Nose. Berry fruits come gushing out of the glass. Blueberry, pomegranite, floral tones.
Palate. Initial entry mouthfeel thoughts are ripe, sweet, spoofy. No oak here, fills the mouth as I smack my lips! This is Italian?.
Berry and cherry fruit dominate, very soft tannins, excellent acidity quite prominent (typical?). Easy drinking, good for a hot spring-like day. I did not notice any changes over 24 hours, cost was a round $22 Cdn from a specialist store here in town. Have to wonder if this is a typical barbera from Piedmont? Have to think that coming from that `03 vintage might be a problem?
