WTN: Clisson, Cappellano

Domaine de la Pépière 2014 Muscadet "Clisson." Tense lemony salty steel, sharp-edged but not unyielding, with some comparatively "plush" preserved citrus notes coming out with air, as well as a green accent on the otherwise strongly minerally/saline finish. This is really beautifully balanced and should do fascinating things with time; pretty dang good now too.

Cappellano 2012 Barbera d'Alba "Gabutti." I don't remember buying this but I must have just said "I'll take whatever Cappellano you can give me," and it was the right thing to say. This has a pleasantly gamey nose and palate, layered over enough dried-cherry fruit and hillside herbs to make the relatively high alcohol (15%, IIRC) imperceptible except via a certain richness in the mouth; yet for all that the wine manages to seem refreshing, too. I wish there had been more than one bottle available!

See y'all in a week or so.
cheers, Patchen

Cappellano causes that sort of reaction.
