2014 Bordeauxs?

This comment on the CT forum by someone named RockinCabs caught my attention:

The wines that I have tasted to this point have all been excellent. 2014 has a degree of freshness that is really nice, and nothing I have tasted tries to be overly opulent. Early on 2014 allows terroir of the sub-appellations to show pretty nicely early on, and chateau style and signature flavors are often easy to find.

A Grand Puy Lacoste that I opened last weekend was excellent. Fine tannins, great balance, Pauillac typicity and GPL gravel/cedar/floral notes all in place.

When price adjusted vs the 2015 / 2016 wines these are relative values worth owning, and I think the 10-yr and 20-yr tastings could show many wines to be over achievers.

I'm not buying any more Bordeaux for long range purposes, but I had not considered looking at a vintage like 2014 for some near-term fun. I'm now thinking I might just grab a few for curiosity's sake.

Anyone have any that deserve attention besides the usual suspects in the classed growths, anyway?

For $8 a half bottle, 2014 Lanessan has been excellent.

I tasted the 2014 Chateau Chantalouette Pomerol at a gathering on Sunday and thought it very nice, just a bit young but with sour cherry and herb notes. Moderate tannins that declined over the short time it was consumed. Opened and consumed immediately.

they do sound nice, I'm just not really buying young Bdx anymore. I really prefer with 20-30 years, and have too much.

My eP 2014's are still in France, due for arrival in UK later this month.

I have bought some petit Chateaux 2014 said to be 'ready for drinking' and they're pleasant enough. If one has a 2014 classed growth already it must have just been released and I would have expected it would benefit from keeping a few more years.

Anyone have any that deserve attention besides the usual suspects in the classed growths, anyway?

Jenise, I'd go for 2014 Château Meyney.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2014 Calon Segur in March. Very open right now, made me wonder if it will ever shut down.

But I didn't buy any, as it was like $65 at the time.

If wine like this were (and others like Beychevelle, Branaire, Canon, d'Issan, etc.) $40-$45, I wouldn't be able to resist. But I think those prices are gone for good, at least via regular retail.

There were many 2014 Bordeaux on sale at last year's Foires aux Vins and I expect more at this year's which start in a couple of weeks time. I haven't yet bought any because I own enough GCCs from the 90s and older for the remainder of my likely drinking career and in lesser wines have been seeking out bottles already pleasing to drink like some 2012s. I may however buy one or two 2014s this year, if I see modestly priced favourites like Domaine de Courteillac and Ch.Martinat.

Reports, e.g. from RVF, are very good to the effect that, while the 2015s are "greater", the 2014s are classical in style, fresher than 2015s, more elegant, easier drinking and more ready as well as more reasonable in price.
