La Kiuva [2016] Rosé de Vallée, Vino da Tavola, Valle d'Aosta, Italy. The American importer's website indicates this is a blend of Nebbiolo, Gros Vien and Neyret; the La Kiuva webpage doesn't list this wine but does list a "Rosé Mariage" with the same blend of grapes, so maybe it's marketed differently in Europe and the US. Also, there's no vintage date given on the front label since it's non-DOC.
But how was the wine? Very good: less fruity than the medium-intense color would imply, identifiably Nebbiolo with some ripe cherry that then turns herbaceous and a little spicy; an initial impression of RS mostly from texture then gives way to a long, dry, even drying finish. I like the way this turns one face toward the sun and one toward the earth: it's both tasty and interesting, and nicely priced at $16.00. One of the more successful rosés of the summer.
