Sparkling Burgundy Question?

by Jim Grow » Wed Jan 17, 2007 11:54 am

I had a sparkling Burgundy, the Louis Bouillot NV Brut Rose Perle d Aurore recently and really liked it and can see it becoming my house sparkler. I do not recall any critics ever reviewing any Cremant de Bourgogne. Why would that be and can any board members recommend other Cremants I should try? This wine has got great QPR also at $11 from WineX.

This is the Roscoe house sparkler. You can get it for $11! That's great! It's $14 here and I consider that a steal. Get a case! Get two!

Cremant de Bourgogne was a real eye-opener for me when I visited Burgundy. I never realized it was so good. By far the best price/performance I've seen in sparklers. There are a couple of excellent producers in Savigny-Les-Beaune. I wish I could remember their names.

You might want to take a look at Simmonet-Febvre; essentially it's spakling Chablis, and is increasingly available...

Thanks guys for the input. My mixed case of Lucien Albrecht Rose and Louis Bouillot Rose arrived today and I just ordered some Tissot Cremant du Jura so I'm well stocked for sparklers but continue to learn about new producers and regions.

Good call on the cremants all the way around. I love the Albrecht as well. It's our #2 sparkler. You have excellent taste! 8)  :D

Now if I could afford the $25 a bottle, the Abele from Champagne itself is the best low-end Champagne. At the next level, I love the Gaston Chiquet between $35 and $45. I don't get to the next level too often.
