Austrian Sticky WTN: Umathum Chardonnay Beerenauslese 2004

by Bill Hooper » Tue Jan 16, 2007 9:55 pm

I bought a bottle of Umathum Scheurebe Trockenbeerenauslese in Germany a few years ago, but unfortunately gave it away. I could no longer wait with this one and (in adherence to the rules of Karmic rewards) opened it up. Apple and banana, toffee notes, pumpkin, and a wonderfully balanced (perched-up, not weighty) texture. Certainly a wine that would hold for many years (for a more patient person). 9,5% alc. $30? 375ml

Prost!

Thanks for the note. I recently tasted two red wines from them at a social gathering and found them pretty nice. I'd love to find more from them to try. I didn't take notes, and therefore promptly forgot what varieties and vintages we had. I'm getting lax.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
