WTN: Two Whites O'er the Weekend..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon May 08, 2017 11:26 am

Tried these two whites over the weekend:
1. ForgeCllrs Dry Riesling Classique FingerLakes (12.5%; RS: 0.3%; www.ForgeCellars.com) LouisBarruol/RichardRainey/JustenBoyette Hector/NY 2014: Med.gold color; rather mineral/stony some Mosel valve oil/gout de petrol light pineapple/floral/R/perfumed talc quite aromatic attractive nose; quite tart/tangy stony/mineral/steely/flinty bit off-dry some pineapple/floral/R flavor; long tart/steely/metallic some floral/R/pineapple light valve oil/gout de petrol stony/mineral finish; a pretty good approximation to an inexpensive Mosel R. $21.00 (SFW&S)
_______________
2. Luisa Friulano Dd'OC: Isonzo del Friuli (13.5%; www.TenutaLuisa.It; L28; ViasImports) Mariano/Friuli 2014: Med.light gold color; pleasant mango/TF bit simple light chalky/perfumed talcnose; some tart/metallic/tangy some TF/mango/pineapple/floral rather lightweight/simple flavor; med. tart/tangy/metallic some TF/mango/pineapple slight stony/earthy finish; a simple/pleasant but light/undistinguished/quotidian example of Friuli TF. $19.00 (SFW&S)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Forge: First time I'd ever seen this wine. I bought it because of LouisBarroul of StCosme/Gigondas on the label. Not sure what expertise a Gigondas producer brings to the table of a producer of Rieslings, though. The RS was a bit noticible on the mouth-feel mostly. Quite a nice/interesting NYState Riesling.

2. URL Squatting: The URL for Luisa was listed on the btl as www.TenutaLuisa.com. When you go to that URL, you are plied w/ offers for a bunch of cheap wines. When you Google "Luisa", you turn up their actual WebSite: www.TenutaLuisa.It. If seen this occur a number of times over the last few months...where someone has squatted on the .com Site of a European URL like .It or .Si or .Au.
