WTN: 2014 Mugneret-Gibourg Bourgogne

by David M. Bueker » Wed Apr 12, 2017 9:11 pm

2014 Domaine Georges Mugneret/Mugneret-Gibourg Bourgogne - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (4/12/2017)
I purchase the Mugneret-Gibourg Bourgogne whenever I can. The price has risen beyond that of 99% of basic Bourgogne wines, but it's no ordinary Bourgogne. The 2014 is a refreshing, lively rendition, dominated by red cherry fruit and a touch of spice. It does not have the sheer power of the 2009 (the version I have had the most of), but does show a fairly close kinship with the more elegant 2010. Overall it is too early for me to fully assess the 2014, but I very much like what is there now. The bright fruit and fresh acidity are of a piece, and look to be heading down the same road. Overall it's another fine Bourgogne from my favorite producer of basic Bourgogne.
