WTN: 2000 ESJ Syrah (California)

2000 Edmunds St. John Syrah - USA, California (4/11/2017)
Perpetually overshadowed by the 2001, this is in a very good place now, but best to be drunk up soon. The red fruit is nearly overwhelmed by strong acidity, and not picking up a ton of developed flavor. There is some red meat and a bit of earth, but none of the leathery or tar elements, and no smoked meat or bacon fat. It's a good but not great Syrah.

thanks for note, I had the '96 Sat and really enjoyed (will do TN tomorrow), and have also really loved the '01. Never had the '00. Any clue where grapes are from?
