1991 Kerpen Bernkasteler Bratenhofchen Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (4/8/2017)
Some wines need a little coaxing, and this was one of those wines. On opening it was surprisingly sweet. It seemed much richer than anything possible from 1991. The aromas and flavors were pretty much as expected, with the citrus fruit moving towards orange, and some spicy tones, especially on the finish. Fast forward an hour, and the acidity woke up, the wine gained focus, and seemed just off dry. It worked very well with a roast duck dish, with the now ample acidity cutting through the fat of the food.

I haven't heard of that vineyard, do you know if it still exists or has it been lumped in with another Bernkastel vineyard name?

It exists. It is not often bottled on its own.

More specific info: the Bratenhofchen is one of the sites that make up the grosslage Badstube.

Badstube is the only grosslage worth caring about!!
