Two utterly different kinds of producer, but both were very fine with roast chicken.
STARMONT Pinot Gris (Carneros) 2014. Quite a nice wine from this large-ish Napa/Carneros producer. Definitely the apple and pear fruit, but there is also a refreshing nutty, savory note here. Oak is present but not overwhelming. Nice wine!
DOMAINE ROLET Arbois 2010. This was a pleasant light red for the chicken. Notes of sour cherry, earth, and tea. Elegant mouth feel. Pretty cloudy orange-red color. Delicious and unusual!
Also this weekend, did a tasting at an Oakland wine shop. INCONNU is a new project from an urban winery focusing on cold climate wines. The Cabernet Franc from Carneros was a standout-crunchy, juicy red fruit but not fiercely green at all. Fresh and refreshing. A delicious wine for a relatively modest $24. Minimo on Third Street off Broadway always has interesting wine!
