Terrific 2005 Vouvray Sec from Huet.

WTN: 2005 Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec, Loire Valley.

I was fortunate to buy a small assortment of Domaine Huet Vouvrays 2 years ago, 10% off. The wines were not moving off the shelf at all so I was in the right place at the right time! They were mainly from 2005 and `09.

Great looking natural cork, $35 Cdn, 13%alc. No Lot number apparent but did see 05MTS?
I did not decant but left open 2 hrs prior to tasting. Medium lemon in color, no real hint of gold.
Lovely aromatics over two days, initially pear, floral, lanolin, not honeyed. Lime developes nicely, some apple and nuts on second day.
Initial entry thought is off-dry, terrific acidity flows on from mid-palate which shows some elegance. Very good level of depth here, think at its prime. The underlying minerality is a big plus for me with added flavors of apple, pear and peach. Not a lot of sweetness apparent even on day 2 but then it is a Sec!!
At the end of the year, this CB will be right up there in memory.

Nice. Hard to go wrong with Huet from '05 and '09. And you probably don't need to wait forever either.

HI Rahsaan. Guess we need not worry too much about pre-mox in `05?

Why not?

Who knows.

You can always worry.

But it sounds like the ripe fruit is giving pleasure now. So you don't need to wait.

Nice TN and great Vouvary, Bob.

I think that the reports of premox at Huet concern 2002 only and emanate mainly, if not exclusively, from the USA. Still there's always a risk. I had some on a Foreau from 2000.

PS I checked my archive and the poxed Foreau was a demi-sec 2000 bought at the estate. I also had a couple of sec which were more evolved than ideal.
