WTN: 2005 Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec, Loire Valley.
I was fortunate to buy a small assortment of Domaine Huet Vouvrays 2 years ago, 10% off. The wines were not moving off the shelf at all so I was in the right place at the right time! They were mainly from 2005 and `09.
Great looking natural cork, $35 Cdn, 13%alc. No Lot number apparent but did see 05MTS?
I did not decant but left open 2 hrs prior to tasting. Medium lemon in color, no real hint of gold.
Lovely aromatics over two days, initially pear, floral, lanolin, not honeyed. Lime developes nicely, some apple and nuts on second day.
Initial entry thought is off-dry, terrific acidity flows on from mid-palate which shows some elegance. Very good level of depth here, think at its prime. The underlying minerality is a big plus for me with added flavors of apple, pear and peach. Not a lot of sweetness apparent even on day 2 but then it is a Sec!!
At the end of the year, this CB will be right up there in memory.
