Warm Springs Pinot Noir

by James G. Lester » Sun Jan 14, 2007 11:09 am

Has anybody tasted this wine? I am very curious. Warm Springs is located near Niagara, NY. I can't remember the exact town he is in, but all he makes is Pinot Noir. I believe Pinot will grow very well in that area and would like very much to hear any tasting notes anyone on this board might have.

James, I believe you're referring to Warm Lake Estate, which our member Howie Hart has mentioned in the past. Here is their website: www.warmlakeestate.com

Thanks! Yes that is the winery I was thinking of-just got the name wrong! I guess maybe Howie can give me an idea on how the wines are.

James, as Paul pointed out it is Warm Lake Estate. They grow only Pinot Noir. They are the largest grower of PN in NY State. The winery is run by a friend of my, Mike Von Heckler and we visited there as part of NiagaraCOOL '06. I am starting to cellar some of his wines and the '05 is superb. Here is a link to Robin's Wine Advisor with notes about Warm Lake Estate.

Thanks Howie,

I had called Mike awhile back but lost my note and forgot his winery name. I called to say "Hi!" from a fellow Great Lakes Pinot grower. I have been making Pinot Noir here in SW Michigan since 1983. My wines hide very well in a blind Burgundy tasting, and I believe other Great Lakes producers will find that our terroir makes a wine much more like Burgundy than anything from the left coast.

I will look forward to tasting and buying his wines.

The 05 Estate is excellent. Could be NY's priciest Pinot but worth every penny.

Ed, Hope we can make the NiagaraCool this June. Maybe we will get to taste this PN?
