WTN: Weekend Update (Foillard and Lapierre)

by Jenise » Tue Feb 28, 2017 4:07 pm

2013 Marcel Lapierre Morgon Gamay
In an optimum place right now, and best bottle yet of the case I bought in '14. Has nicely put on a little weight and shows more fruit; everything's in balance.

2012 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette Gamay
A great bottle. No VA or brett (as some recent CTers report), and there's no green streak like the one I noted 7 months ago. Just Corcelette's trademark spicy fruit with a new leathery note--first sign of bottle-age character. I like!

Now you've got me thinking it's time for me to pull a 2009 or 2010.

Bob groans every time I get one of those out! But yes, great producer; I prefer Foillard but the styles are so different I appreciate the difference.

And now I have some Metras too. Drink or hold???

Why is the wax an issue? Just take a waiters corkscrew and drive it right through. Works every single time no issue.

Some waxes are soft and flexible, and some aren't. The Lapierres are, to Bob's mind, in the 'aren't' category.

Really? Admittedly I drink a lot more Foillard than Lapierre, but I think of them as being very similar in style, standard semi-carbonic Beaujolais, with just a bit more depth and exotic spice from Foillard.

I hope you don't drink Lopez de Heredia or Raveneau.

For Raveneau, he'll put up with it. Or else!

Foillard and Lapierre. I really don't need much more than those 2.
