A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. GemischterSatz: This is a genre of Austrian wine, mostly around Wein/Vienna, but also further afield, that is made up of a field-blend from a single, often old, vnyd. I think the concept has gradually expanded so that it doesn't have to be from a single vnyd. So it's just a (usually unspecified) field blend of white grapes that are co-frmtd.
MokelumneGlen is a Lodi vnyd (probably presently under water I would suspect) that contains some 40 different German/Austrian varieties. Lodi is not an obvious place to be growing these grapes. Owned by BobKoth and farmed by his son, Brett.
Matt's GS is just a field blend from these grapes and I suspect he has no idea what actual varieties are contained in this wine. In the past, his GS has been a bit on the underacid side (it is Lodi, after all). This GS '15 was not at all underacid and I think his best one yet. It could go mano a mano against the IngridGroiss GS I think.
It's probably only a matter of time afore the Austrian wine authorities raise an objection to his use of GemischterSat, I suspect.
I would love to see Matt make a red equivalent of this wine from MokelumneGlen.
