Our last lunch in Assisi today we had a bottle of Grimaldi's Barbera D'Abla 05 - 14% alcohol. Young, and in need of some airing, some sulfur (?) which dissipated; some barnyard; dark and intense purple color. At first I thought I was not going to tolerate such a wine, but after it opened up, the dark blackberry fruit and refreshing acidity came through and showed a perfect match with my ricotta and broccoli lasagna, basil and tomato sauce. A good simple wine with amazing food. The home made lasagna was fresh and delicate. YUM!!!
