WTN: Muri-Gries MoscatoRosa '12...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Feb 24, 2017 11:11 am

Had this dessert wine at BacchusBadBoys last night:
1. CantinaConvento Muri-Gries Abtei-Muri MoscatoRosa Sudtitol RosenMuskateller DOC: AltoAdige (14.5%; ToscoWines) Bolzano 2012: Med.light color; intense Muscatty/hair-oil/very grapey/floral/violets beautiful aromatic nose; quite sweet very intense Moscato/hair-oil intense floral/violets/lilacs beautiful flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long/lingering very sweet very intense muscatty/hair-oil very floral/lilacs/violets/cherry blossom very slight earthy/dusty beautiful finish w/ light gentle tannins; a beautiful quite sweet MoscatoRosa that's not heavy/ponderous and very light on its feet; one of the best MoscatoRosas I can recall. $33.00/hlf

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I'm a big fan of RedMuscat Dessert Wines. Mostly you find it in Italy...Trentino/AltoAdige/Friuli. A bit in Austria & Slovenia. There appears to be a fair amount planted in Calif of this variety...but you seldom see it in quality dessert wines. 'Tis a pity.
In the nose, it reminds some of the Quady Elysium, which is made from BlackMuscat or MuscatHamburg. But that Angelica wine is much sweeter, low-acid, and pretty heavy-handed.
This MoscatoRosa is probably the best one I've had. Even though it's quite sweet, it pirouettes across the palate like AnnaPavlova as TheDyingSwan.
This wine came from EnotecaVinoNostra on vanNess in TheCite, the retail arm of ToscoImports. I plan to get more.

I served strawberry macarons with it, Bob. Worked fine.
