2013 Matthiasson Ribolla Gialla Matthiasson Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (2/18/2017)
Beautiful golden color leads to aromatics that focus on citrus zest, pear and hazelnuts. On the palate it is quite focused, with the citrus character dominating until a more savory and nutty finish. It's a very lean wine (11.3% abv), and needs a bit more stuffing on the back end as its low alcohol manages to poke out if the wine warms up a bit. I do struggle with the value proposition at $40.

I do love the fact that Cali producers are experimenting with "geeky" Old World grapes. But in general my reaction at Trousseau, Mondeuse, Teroldego, etc grown in US is why should I pay 2X what I pay for region where they mastered this. I understand the land cost issues of CA, but that doesn't make any difference to me,

You have also nailed one of the reasons I love Idlewild. The wines are reasonably competitive on both quality and price.

True, Dale....to a certain degree. Almost always, w/ the more obscure varieties, you can find cheaper versions from
the old world than from Calif. But, to my taste, the Lagier-Meredith Mondeuse is a world-class Mondeuse that is better
than any Mondeuse I've had from the Savoie, though the flavor profile is somewhat different. The Harrington Lagrein
is another world-class wine that I would put up against any from the AltoAdige. Teroldego.....nothing yet in the Foradori
class...but it'll happen.

Yup, David....the Idlewilds can go mano a mano, both in quality and $$'s, with anything from the old world.
Getting ready to send in my order later this week...if'n you left anything on the table for me.

Of course you could pay 2X more for the Old World ones, such as Miani, so in this case David's wine would be as cheap as peanuts. :D

Just got this subject joke. A week later.

And along those lines, anybody know of wines that taste like Ricola? More likely to be in the digestif realm I suppose.
