Napa Valley Highlight-White Rock Cellars

by Brian K Miller » Mon Feb 06, 2017 5:47 pm

At the Backroom Wine "winery tasting" on Friday, one producer really stood out to me: White Rock Cellars.

Old stone winery building (now the estate house) off Soda Canyon Road in the eastern hills of Napa Valley south of Yountville.

The 2013 "Claret" was heavy on the Cabernet Franc, and that did show in all of its peppery glory. This was a lovely wine, though, with some real Bordeaux character-earthiness and elegance abounded.

The 2013 Estate Chardonnay was likewise very deftly made, with some bright, spritely acidity and no spoofy oak or butter. Lovely...and I am not a big California Chardonnay drinker!

Very low key winemaker-nice guy (he is the son), and I will definitely pay them a visit some time soon!
