WTN: Cortese and Spark

by David M. Bueker » Tue Jan 17, 2017 9:08 pm

2014 Idlewild Cortese Fox Hill Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (1/17/2017)
Discovered a bottle of this still in the cellar, and the extra year of age has done it a world of good. The level of complexity is amped up, with pine and spice joining the peach and pear fruit. There is still a definite richness to the texture from the partial skin ferment, and overall it's a delicious mid-weight wine that provides excellent value. I would expect it could age quite a bit more, as there is plenty of fruit depth and very good acidity.

Hmmmm, David...is there an echo in the house??
Pretty much agree w/ your take on this Cortese of Sam's. It's really evolving into something really special.
The '15 is still pretty phenolic in character. Leave it alone for at least a yr. Not very interesting yet.

I do not yet own any '15. Will get around to it soon.
