Finger Lakes Help

by Jason Hagen » Tue Jan 17, 2017 12:53 pm

I'll be in Syracuse and think I might have time to visit one spot but not zero about the area. I have wanted to learn more and now this opportunity has arisen.

Help with wines to look for and the best winery to visit if you only have time for one.

Cheers,

Jason

Dress warmly..If you have the time to drive to Seneca Lake area, wd try Damiani (east side of Seneca)for the breadth of their portfolio and probably the best reds in FL region., a somewhat shorter drive wd put you on east side of Cayuiga and you can visit Hearts and Hands, specializing in Pinot Noir, Riesling and some bubbly, ...If time short, wd try Owera which is in Cazenovia, a relatively close suburb of Siberacuse..Fun place, decent riesling tho not an upper echelon FL winery
When will you be here?

Jon's recommendations are great ones, but be sure to check if Heart & Hands will be open when you want to visit - it is a pretty small operation, but they are doing nice work. And Damiani is a great choice for a place that does a wide range of red and white, and does them well. There are a lot of other good choices in the general vicinity of Damiani that are also worth visiting if you wind up having more time (not so much with Heart & Hands).
