WTN: 2011 Coudert Fleurie Griffe du Marquis

by Rahsaan » Sun Jan 08, 2017 11:45 am

After opening a corked bottle of 2014 Louis Boillot Volnay Les Brouillards I was somehow not in the mood for a replacement bottle and instead shifted to 2011 Coudert Fleurie Griffe du Marquis as a last minute accompaniment to pizza with taleggio, maitake and golden beets. It was a great choice (inspired by recent wine board commentary) because the Griffe performed brilliantly from the first pour. It almost seemed to have that dark velvety texture of an aged (fairly serious) wine. But then of course the tart fresh Beaujolais-ness came in on the finish. Satisfaction in the moment.

Forget the wine. The pizza sounds delicious.

It was. Saturday is usually pizza night for us and this was the first one after a month of either traveling for the holidays or being out for holiday dinners. Sometimes after a long break the first pizza night is not always up to standard, but this was perfect!
