Tried these three last night w/ my Balsamic/Cherry glazed GooseBreast:
1. Novy Syrah NapaVlly (15.1%) 2000: Med.color w/ little bricking; light blackberry/Syrah/spicy light toasty/oak bit cedary/pencilly/oldRed attractive complex nose; light blackberry/Syrah/blueberry slight tangy/metallic light toasty/oak bit pencilly/tired flavor w/ light smooth/tired tannins; med.long rather tangy/metallic light blackberry/Syrah light toasty/oak bit pencilly/tired finish w/ light gentle tannins; a pleasant-enough fully mature Syrah but getting a bit frayed around the edges.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. These three were all the low-end Novy Syrahs. I really had no expectation that they would go out 15 yrs and beyond. And they didn't. They weren't bad, the noses still had some Syrah fruit, and perfectly drinkable, but just getting a bit long of tooth. They all had that tangy/metallic character that's characteristic of a wine starting to head South. I liked the SLH easily the best because of more fruit on the nose, but it was a bit too shrill/tart on the palate.
