2001 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/30/2016)
This is what was promised way back at the pre-release tasting in June 2002. The depth, complexity and internal electricity is on a direct line from what made me love this wine (and the entire Christoffel range) so much when I first tasted it. There have been times that the Würzgarten Spätlese has been overshadowed by other bottlings, but tonight it put on a show, making its own singular claim to greatness, and promising many more years of fascinating drinking.

The few 2001s I had are long gone at this point. I was just getting started and didn't realize that I should have bought more.
