WTN: Not quite Kane's last word

by David M. Bueker » Tue Dec 27, 2016 10:57 pm

2013 Dirty and Rowdy Mourvedre Old Vine Rosewood Vineyards - USA, California, North Coast, Redwood Valley (12/26/2016)
My patience with these wines is minimal, so it is not shocking that I caught the 2013 Rosewood at an in between stage. Aromatically it was beautiful, with red fruit, leather, spice, earth and a touch of gaminess. I could have been quite satisfied smelling it rather than drinking it. On the palate it was more closed in. The spice and fruit were there, but the extra nuances that made it so special to smell did not carry through. It also seemed a little tight/strained. I think there is a wonderful future for this bottling, but the divergence between the nose and palate say that we have not yet arrived. Hold if you have this.

And here I was waiting for the Brad Kane reference! Perhaps in relation to aging Donnhoff or some such...
