by TomHill » Tue Dec 27, 2016 1:19 pm

We had these two at Christmas Dinner:
1. Venica Ronco del Cero Sauvignon DOC: Collio (13.5%; 18 hrs skin maceration; www.Venica.It; GiulianaImports/Boulder) Gianni e Giorgio Venica/Dolegna del Collio 2015: Med.gold color; very strong herbal/SB/cat pee/pungent slight muscat-like/floral rather mineral/stony lovely SB nose; soft fairly rich/lush somewhat herbal/SBgreen olive light mineral/stony/chalky very attractive flavor; very long rather herbal/SB slight melony/rich/lush bit chalky/mineral finish; quite an attractive Friuli SB w/ a good balance of herbal character w/ a stony minerality. $26.00 (AV)

2. Peza do Rei DdeOrixe: RibeiraSacra (Godello/Treixadura/Albarino; 12.5%) Adega Cachin/Abeleda/Ourense/Espana 2015: Light gold color; quite fragrant melony/mango/ripe/pineapply almost R-like/floral lovely perfumey slight chalky nose; lightly tart/chalky attractive pineapple/ripe/mango/melony/bit R-like light stony fairly rich/Albarino/floral flavor; med.long light chalky/stony fairly ripe/pineapple/mango/R-like/floral some tart/tangy/metallic finish; reminds a lot of a rich/lush Albarino from Forlorn-Hope; quite a nice white at a very good price. $19.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Not a particularly big fine of SauvBlanc, but I'm drawn more&more to those of Friuli and SudTirol. They seem to show an interesting balance between herbal varietal character and a stony minerality. Just a bit more interesting to me.
