WTN: Christmas Leitz

by David M. Bueker » Wed Dec 21, 2016 9:08 pm

2009 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Rheingau (12/21/2016)
An early Christmas turkey dinner prompted me to open this, and from turkey, to dressing, to sweet potatoes it was a great match. Slimmed down a bit from its voluptuous youth, the wine had enough nerve to cut through the richness of the meal. Peach and pineapple tones dominated the fruit, and some brown spice tones made it feel festive/Christmasy. There ages to go with this wine, as it still has more than a bottle full of fruit, so drink with rich dare, or age as long as you want.

Leitz has been a great bargain since 2001. I thought I had this, but pnly '09 I have is Klosterlay Kab. I do see I have a case of this in 2011 that I've never tried

Dale,

I suspect you will be happier if you let the '11 rest a while. It's a very rich wine, and '11 is a low acid vintage.
