Lead up to Christmas so why not post your notes here! Wines consumed as well as wines you expect to open.

Yesterday at a new local wine store, I was fortunate to sample some very nice wines. The Eau Claire Christmas Gin is produced in Turner Valley south of Calgary. Rosehip, saskatoon berry, lemon and coriander. Very nice presentation bottle, will appeal to the ladies I think. I also sampled a very expensive 2010 Valpolicella from Bussola. New name to me...blackpepper, cherry, quite smooth, ripasso style I would say but $65??
I also tasted for the second time this past week the 2010 Bodega Urbis Madero Pago Opta from the region of Calzadella, Spain. Very earthy, some funk, licorice, meaty and with some sweetness. Think I might put one away for a few years (Tempranillo, Syrah, Grenache). Other wines poured included a 2013 Luis Pato Bairrada Vinhas Velhas (Branco) which I really enjoyed.

I have had my eye on a Moldovan Negru de Purcari for quite a while so last night purchased a split of the 2012 vintage....a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Saperavi and Rara Meagra. In the decanter as I write so stay tuned forumites!

Bob, I'm unconvinced from experience of the UK board that general weekly and weekend tasting posts where everyone piles in are a good idea. I find that discussion worthy TNs often get buried and fail to elicit any response.

As it is, I post about most wines consumed on WLDG, either in a WF thread or in my own threads. Maybe my threads are too long and I should post shorter ones more often :? .

Joining the chorus, that's not reall the way the forum works. With the limited exception of Wine Focus, limited to a specific type, and the occaional Open Mike (where've they been, anyway), which focus on a specific wine, it seems to generate more conversation when we post notes individually or in small groups.

Bob, maybe instead of a segregated thread with an uninspiring title, why not post your Holliday TNs with the subject line: Holiday WTN: (NAME OF WINE) ?

Ha! Yes, I'll give you that. And in Southern Indiana, Bean Blossom, Gnaw Bone and Possum Trot (where there is or was a very fine eastern winery run by a retired doctor who was one of the pioneers of modern Eastern wine, Ben Sparks). In Kentucky I'll offer Rabbit Hash, which sounds hillbilly but is actually Cincinnati's outer suburbs, and Big Bone Lick state park. Clean out your mind. It's full of dinosaur bones and salt licks.

I am amused by a suburban mishmash in the East Bay (a "Census Defined Place", not a town) called EL SOBRANTE. Which means, basically, "The Leftovers" (of a ranch land deed).

Last night we enjoyed a NV Domaine Taittinger with sauerkraut and cabbage rolls. Great combination!!
