2002 Lagier Meredith Syrah - USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder (12/15/2016)
Two years ago I wrote about this wine, and mentioned blackberry fruit and roasted meat. Well flash forward two years and those elements are still going strong in the wine. It's wilder now, with more warm herbs and a spicy accent. Balance is good, with structural tannin on the back end, so allied with the still strong fruit, there seems to be plenty of time left for this bottling. Fourteen years since the vintage, this is strong evidence for the site that Carole and Steve so ably tend atop Mt. Veeder.
