WTN: Jaffurs Syrah SBC '14...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Dec 13, 2016 9:42 am

Continuing to Pobega my BlackThurs stash, I tried last night:
1. Jaffurs Syrah SBC (14.8%; www.JaffursWine.com) 2014: Very dark color; very intense spicy/blackberry/Syrah/ripe/boysenberry quite peppery bit licorice/pungent/RCCola lovely Syrah nose; bit tart/angular very strong blackberry/Syrah/peppery/blueberry slight dusty/earthy light toasty/oak lovely SBC Syrah flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long/lingering very strong blackberry/Syrah/blueberry/peppery/spicy light toasty/oak finish w/ modest smooth tannins; almost like a ThompsonJr Syrah; a classic expression of SBC Syrah; great drinking now but will benefit from 5-6 months and should go out 10 yrs; more like a sleek GreatDane than a sloppy/face-lickin' StBernard; an absolute steal at $24.50.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The standard Jaffurs SBC Syrah is one of my no-brainers every year. This '14 seems to be particularly peppery and almost like a ThompsonVnydJr w/o the tannins.
Plan to be in SantaBarbara for a few days in early Feb and hope to meet the new owner. Maybe have a glass of Viognier poured from a Gerber baby food jar on the front porch of BobSenn's LOW&SE!!
