WTN: The Betz of what's around

2013 Betz Family Cuvée Frangin - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (12/3/2016)
This is an interesting blend, with Syrah added to a Bordeaux varieties mix. It's quite oaky, which is not my thing, but there's good fruit underneath the wood. Seems like they applied the normal Betz wood regime to a wine that's not quite big enough to handle it. Not bad, but I would rather spend more for their first tier bottlings.

Adding syrah to Bordeaux blends is becoming increasingly common around here. Gets hard to tell the kitchen sink leftover blends from the "we did it because we liked it best this way" blends.

I believe that this cuvée is essentially whatever is left around. It's Cuvée Waiting List for Betz.

Most Washington wineries make one; makes sense. And they're usually well balanced and good value (meaning $15-25).
