I wandered into Grocery Outlet today on a pilgrimage for cheap wine, and came away with a Wm. Wheeler California Zinfandel from 1994 for $1.99 a bottle. It is well worth the tariff just for the experience of an aged zinfandel. It was to me not really distinguisable as a zin, but had a lovely aged bordeaux like character (gentle tea leaves impression). Nice, in an educational type of way, and my wife liked it quite a bit. Went well with a grilled chicken and romaine salad. All the best, Jim PS. The 2000 Concannon petite sirah I bought the last time I was in Grocery Outlet for $4.99 was terrific. Big, lush, but decently structured, it has years to go, but is drinking well right now.
