Tried this last night w/ Susan:
1. Heger Gemischter Schatz (Q; 12%; 40% Rivaner/35% SauvBlanc/14% Muskateler/8% Weissburgunder/3% Riesling; SchatzWines/Milan NY; www.SchatziWines.com) Joachim Heger/Ihringen/Baden 2015: Some light bubbles on pouring; light grapey/floral slight SauvBlanc/herbal slight pineapply nose that is very reminiscent of BlueNun/ZellerSchwartzKatz that I used to drink; soft/fat tingly/ersatz acidity from the CO2 addition rather dull/simply/grapey/fruity/pineapple slight floral/herbal off-dry flavor; med.short light grapey/fruity bit pineapple/herbal soft off-dry some ersatz acidity/spritz simple/dull finish; very much like the BlueNun of old but not as sweet; dull as dishwater and an affront to Austrian GS; avoid this wine. $15.50 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I'm a big fan of Austrian wines and, particularly, Gemischter Satz. Especially those of Ingrid Groiss. So I saw this new GS at KoKoman ystrday & was quite excited. Then I looked a bit closer at the label: Gemischter Schatz. "Ohhh....that's interesting...they mispelled GS". Then I looked at the back label: Baden. "Ohhh...not an Austrian GS". But thought I'd give it a try anyway..relatively cheap in price.
When I unscrewed the cap, there was this pop of released pressure. Almost always a sure sign of a white that's been refreshed w/ CO2 at bottling. It's supposed to give the wine a sort of acidity, but I find it's an ersatz/shallow/untangy kind of acidity that doesn't linger on the palate.
The importer is Schatzi wines out of Milan, NY. The Heger WebSite ( HegerWeines ) has some interesting wines that I'd like to try. But not familiar w/ this producer until now and unlikely to try any of his others. The GS is not listed on his WebSite and is, I suspect, a creation strictly for this importer. Anyway..steer clear of this wine. Buy BlueNun for a more ethereal experience.
