I took five wines to our communal Thanksgiving dinner held after our noon church service today. Unfortunately, only three were opened for consumption. I set down the bag with the two red wines on a table and they quickly fell off the table and broke, splattering the gray carpet with red wine and a nice scent. One was an inexpensive Grenache blend from Rousillon (Tautavel) and the other was (sigh) a 2013 Failla Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast. Two white wines and a rose' in another bag had to do for the repast. One of the whites was the 2013 Failla Chardonnay Sonoma Coast and the other was The White Knight Viognier, an inexpensive Viognier/Chardonnay blend from Clarksburg, CA which is off-dry. The rose' was the enjoyable 2015 Brotte Tavel Les Eglantiers which is a brilliant almost-red color. I believe I have one or two bottles of this remaining so will post a note when opened. One pair of ladies would not agree with me that the rose' is enjoyable--they found it too tart so I suggested they try the Viognier and they found that more to their liking. I contributed a spinach/cream cheese/herb stuffing dish and a party version of mashed potatoes to the food table and brought a commercial pecan pie for the dessert table when I couldn't find a pumpkin pie (sold out at several venues.) We did have one pumpkin pie, another pecan pie, an apple dessert, a sweet potato pie, and cheesecake. We also had roasted and smoker turkeys, a good cranberry dish, regular mashed potatoes and gravy, a broccoli casserole, macaroni and cheese, a squash casserole, candied sweet potato dish, creamed corn, green beans, etc. I have a takeout box for lunch tomorrow.
