2015 Schloss Lieser Niederberg Helden Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (11/19/2016)
After trying several 2015 German Rieslings and finding them very good, but not great, this is the first one I have had that comes within shouting distance of the hype. The purity of fruit is striking, and the wine has some of the mid-palate explosiveness that made 2001 so special when those wines came out. This bottle needed some time to open up, and it gained in focus through the evening. It's a big wine, muscular rather than elegant, but that just means it goes down for a long sleep.
Overall I would say this is impressive, though not a singular achievement.
