Another wine from Gomer's/MT I tried this weekend:
1. TenutaRoletto DOC: CanaveseRosso (12%; www.TenutaRoletto.It; 60% Barbera/15% Nebbiolo/20% Neretto di SanGiorgio/5% Freisa) Cuceglio 2013: Dark color; strong mostly Barbera/Italian sausage/dried Italian herbs some earthy/dusty bit smokey somewhat rustic nose; quite tart/acid/tangy/bit metallic/almost screechy strong Barbera/dried Italian herbs/febbel seed fairly earthy/dusty/rough/rustic/coarse flavor w/ ample hard/edgy tannins; very long very tart/acid/metallic strong Barbera/dried Italian herbs/Italian sausage rather citric/rough/dusty/earthy/rustic finish w/ hard/bitey tannins; a pretty classic expression of Barbera w/ lots of rough/rustic/hard character; fairly good value for what it is.
$16.00 (G/MT)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. You don't see much in the way of wines from the Canavese region. This is the home of Erbaluce about 20 km North of Torino. The Neretto di San Giorgio is apparently indigenous to the area and unrelated to other varieties, as best I can find. It is used mostly in blends, though Cieck makes a 100% varietal version.
